Orlando To Get Honorary Degree
From kentnews.co.uk: Pirates of the Caribbean heart-throb Orlando Bloom is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Kent.
The 33-year-old actor, who found fame as Legolas in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be joined by Poirot star David Suchet OBE, who is also being made an honorary graduate at the ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral.
Bloom, who was born and raised in the city, trained with the British American Drama Academy and is a former student of London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Gracing both stage and screen, Bloom’s profile has continued to grow since his breakthrough roles as elf-prince Legolas in 2001 and blacksmith Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean in 2003.
He will collect his degree on Tuesday, July 13, alongside Suchet, who is best known for his role as Agatha Christie’s detective Poirot in the long-running British TV series.
